OLA Preschool Children’s Liturgy

  • Arrive 15-20 minutes before Mass to set up.

Leading the Children Out of Mass

  • Two volunteers go up to the Altar whiel the team leader waits at the hall of saints and separates the preschool children and leads them to the sacristy.
  • Ensure all children are accounted for.

Goal

To bring the word of God to the preschool children at a level that they will understand, in a fun and exciting way.

  • Average 15-25 children
  • Approximately 30 minutes
  • The team leader will welcome the children, remind them that they are still in the house of God and will then introduce the volunteers and talk about what was discussed the previous week and then hand it over to the volunteer to discuss today’s topic. (Try to ask and learn the children’s names.)
  • You will recieve the liturgy 2-3 weeks in advance. Extract words (2 max) and focus on those words. Make them relevant to their lives. You may use watever props, etc. you think will get the message across.
  • Ask questions and always give positive and rewarding comments to their answers. Ask them to raise hands to answer the question.
  • Encourage everyone to participate.
  • Laugh, smile, and be excited.
  • Do not criticize or discipline. Remind active children that they are in God’s house and to be respectful.
  • Prayer - Team Leader will do this as they will be repeating prayers for a few weekds until they have learned a new prayer.
  • Song - Refer to booklet
  • Activity - Usually from the leaflet. There will be crayons/markers there.
  • Listen for the older children and make your way back into the church quietly and ensure that all children find their way back to their parents.
  • Return to Sacristy and tidy up.

OLA Preschool Children’s Liturgy Schedule

We have now changed the teaching schedule for the preschool liturgy. In order to maintain some consistency for the children, there are now 5 team leaders who will teach the lesson plan for the day and the other volunteer will be responsible for crowd control.
